Curriculum in Song                                    

 

Our September Character Song is “Be Nice”, by the Blankies, on their album “Peace”. It has a slow, haunting melody. View the lyrics in the wallchart photo. We will build curriculum around it in the following ways:

Building Community

We will sing the song in configurations to establish a group feeling, such as pointing to ourselves and others; standing facing a partner holding hands; and in a tight circle with arms around each other.

Language Development

We will brainstorm ways to be nice, and enact them.

Early Literacy (for the older group)

Using the wall chart, we will notice how the words match in the repeated line; find the word “be” with both a capital and a lowercase letter b, and find letters in the song which match the posted alphabet.

Music Education (for the older group)

We will count the four beats of the longest held notes, and see how whole notes are written.
